There was some things going on in Queens when he was MC’ing, and there was something he was doing there that shaped the future of hip hop. Toby who represents over 30 athletes used to be homeless but is still giving back to the unfortunate during the holiday season. “Chicago and New Jersey / New York have always had a musical connection and a mutual respect for each others music (Club Music and House Music). My best memories of Glenn Toby would be in the summer of 1986, not personally, but musically, through his song, “Ma Foom Bey”, which he recorded under the moniker Cultural Vibe. DJ Tony Humphries always seemed to be playing this classic at Club Zanzibar right before my group J.M. Silk would perform there, which was at least 4 times between 1986 and 1987. “Ma Foom Bey” is definitely one of my favorite New Jersey Club Classics…for me, it brings back the great memories of Club Zanzibar every time I play it! Although our paths have crossed many times musically, Glenn Toby and I actually met for the first time some 26 years later, in 2012 at the MIDEM conference in Cannes, France. There was definitely a spiritual connection that felt like running into a childhood buddy again. I have known Glenn musically for years, but now we are set to bring our life experiences together through limitless new collaborations. Neither Glenn, Myself, or the World can predict what they will be.”
